Nixino

“Since Nixino is teeming with invasive aquatic species, the city has been offering rewards to people who catch or hunt specified fish. It seems that there is an especially large bounty for a certain fish-- some sort of hybrid between a large lionfish and an eel, it looks like.” Merostar examines the photograph, and then attempts to hold it to the intercom’s camera. Indeed, it looks like an incredibly large eel with a lionfish’s bright stripes and spikes. It is roughly 2 meters, maybe even three. No doubt that mutation can be held accountable.

“An elderly visitor and his grandson have been reported to have rented a boat from a tourist company in order to set out and fish the Lion-eel themselves. However, the company was due back their boat a few days ago...so it’s up to us to find these people lost at sea! Or, well, it’s up to you guys. Go find these two without further delay! Their boat should be stocked up with enough food and water to last them awhile, not to mention they should be able to fish if they run out...but in no means does that allow you to take your time! If you want, you can even help them catch their bounty. I’m sure they don’t want to return empty-handed, but that isn’t your priority here.”

Objective: Submit art, lit, or collabs involving your character rescuing the elderly man and his grandson from being lost at sea! You can attempt to catch the lion-eel for the two as well!!

“--as I was saying, kind enough to use the Train’s funds and pay for whoever wants to go.” Clearly Arlaena’s laughter indicated that there probably was more persuasion and pleading involved than magnanimity. That, or some underhand deal with this spa was in play, but either way you don’t really want to know.

“Still,” Merostar continued. “We don’t want the train’s funds to go to dry...so while you don’t have to pay, you are strongly encouraged have to bring someone with you. That way the people-- or, er, vehicular transport machine that is paying for you at least gets the ‘buy one get one’ discount.”

“And as a sidenote from Ajax and myself...please, please try not to make a mess or damage the place. I don’t know what you can possibly do wrong at a spa resort-- and I don’t want to say anything in case that gives anyone ideas, but just...relax and have fun to a publicly acceptable degree. As Mr. Fits would say, ‘Keep your friends close, and your free spa days complete with mud baths and massages even closer!’”

“Alright guys, sorry for the sudden message-- but something strange happened recently, and we figured we should keep the rest of the train updated. By the way, welcome to all our new traingoers! It is a pleasure to have you on board.”

Merostar holds up something to the screen: it is an envelope, significantly aged but still retaining some of what could possibly be its original pink envelope color. There is something written where the sender and recipient’s addresses would go, but it is blotted out and faded. A faint pattern of doves laces the border on both sides, and a golden melted wax seal holds the contents in secrecy. 

“When Ospire was moving his things over to the attendant suite, he found this amidst the moving mess. He said he isn’t sure if it’s his or not, Fits said it was a scroll from the ancient Hawaiians—” the dragoness rolls her eyes, “and Arlaena said that it could have come from the train’s ‘attic’ or something...none of us are really sure where this came from, but upon further magic analysis—”

“You mean a seance?” The conductor yells out in the background.

“Seance, magic analysis, same thing. Anyway...The person who wrote this letter regrettably passed away many years ago, and wants our help to deliver this last message to his loved one.” Mero’s eyes soften. “He wasn’t able to give this to her before he died...he wasn’t able to tell her how he felt, and remind her of how loved she was...so,” she wipes her face, “we all decided to help out our ghostly little friend here. We’re feeling the Valentine’s Day mood, after all.”

“The description our ghost friend gave of his lover matches someone in Nixino named Meidre. Here is what she looks like.” She sets down the envelope and fishes around on her desk before pulling out a photo of an elderly female with pale green skin, green hair and blue eyes. She has webbed hands and feet, is most likely amphibious (you infer from the fins on her face) and a billowing white robe wrapped around her. “She lives quite deep in Nixino’s Undercity, but very, very far towards its edge. Getting to Meidre’s house won’t be easy, particularly because a lot of toxic and poisonous fish, sharks and sea serpents and volcanic spots inhabit her neighborhood.”

“It’s quite remarkable that she hasn’t moved to a safer area,” mutters Ospire next to Mero.

“Well, it could be that she’s holding onto the house her and her lover had once shared.” Damon ponders as Arlaena pushes him out of the staff room. Merostar sighs.

“Such a sad love story...what a tragedy. Waiting for her lover for so long...but,” she perks up and looks at the intercom. “You all can change that!! Grab an oxygen mask from the store or partner up with someone who can stand the enormous water pressure of the ocean floor. Don’t keep a girl waiting any longer!”

“WAIT!! Wait wait wait, can I talk abou--” A flash of red and white appears on screen momentarily: within the ruckus of getting Damon out of the room, in crept in another trespasser. Heren tries to focus the screen, but both Merostar and Arlaena punt him square on the head. Arlaena drags his unconscious body and hurls it outside the room, right on top of Damon.

“Sorry about that!” Merostar says, flushed, and takes her seat again. “Anyway, before we were interrupted...as I mentioned earlier, Arlaena and the rest of us were feeling in quite the Valentine’s Day mood, so we had Xi fix everyone up some Valentine’s Day treats!! It’s on the house! We aren’t really sure what’s in the heart-shaped chocolates, but we were warned that there could be some...unforeseen consequences.” She frowns, and Arlaena squeezes in, straight faced.

“We're not liable for whatever happens. If the infirmary can’t fix it, you’re on your own.”

VERY IMPORTANT: You may get a note from an admirer with “Questionable Valentine’s Chocolate.” The random recipients will be turned into puppies. We will leave a comment on the apps. Those who turned into a puppy can only be transformed back by receiving a kiss from their true love by the mission deadline, or through completing this mission: Meidre, a powerful and experienced witch, has a counter spell for anyone who is turned into a puppy. So in case it wasn’t clear, If you turn into a dog, you do the mission as a dog. If you choose not to do the mission, you'll eventually turn back into your regular form. Eventually.

Objective: Submit art or literature of your character journeying through Nixino’s Undercity depths to deliver a mysterious love letter! You can show your character dodging volcanic eruptions, fighting sea creatures, or successfully giving Meidre her long-awaited letter. If you are a dog you can draw your true love's kiss or delivering the letter in your dog form.
